  • Using a UK LaCie drive in the US?

    Hey-

I've brought home (to US) one of these LaCie Porsche 160g drives from the UK. Can I simply put a non-converting adapter over the plug and the UK power cord will mediate the power?

I'm just really nervous because the drive has hours of logged footage and I don't want to surge that all away by being an idiot.

Check if the power supply is universal. I would presume it is. It should say on the back of the device whether it is 120-240v 50-60Hz. I cannot imagine anything produced today that does not have a universal power supply.

Yes it's autoswitching. However, I would not recommend those drives for video. I would not recommend those drives for transferring any substantial amount of data. They get real hot. If you are buying La Cie look into the d2 case or the Big, Bigger and Biggest cases--not the Porsche.
