    And another thing...

Is it possible that they were shot as HDV, not DV?

I'm not familiar with that deck. Does it automatically set itself, or do you have to tell it what format to play back?

Many tapes shot at LP can only be played back in cameras in which they were recorded.

If you suspect it is LP, I'd see if I could locate a consumer miniDV camcorder and if it'll play them back, then make dubs to your Panny deck via FW.

Or go back to the person who shot them and ask for the camera. And then dub.

Capturing Mini DV from Panasonic HD1400 deck

I have a Panasonic HD1400 DVCPro deck and the adapter for MiniDV, which I have used successfully before to capture MiniDV into FCP. But now I have two MiniDV tapes (one Panasonic DVM63 and one Maxell DVM60) that both will not playback with the adapter. I don't know how the tapes were recorded, but they were used for time lapse, so they were quite possibly shot LP. Is it that this deck doesn't support LP?
