    Job Description:

    Texture Artists at Double Negative create photo realistic textures and other related maps or images for mapping on to 3D objects. You will be creating images to a high level of realism as part of the model and shading set up, from scratch, from reference source photography, whilst reference paintings, reference books, and architecture. You will work closely with the other members of the build department, and become fluent in our in house software packages.


    Junior Texture Artist

    Salary $22.60ph - $28.84ph / $47,008pa - $60,000pa

    Must Have
    • At least 1 year of high-end feature film VFX experience
    • Full working knowledge of Photoshop, or similar paint package
    • Good visual skills, and a good eye for detail, scale, composition, colour and form
    • Showreel demonstrating experience of high quality hard surface, organic, and creature assets
    • A good knowledge of how the texture painting work fits into the bigger picture, particularly in relation to modelling, shading, and look development
    • Experience meeting deadlines while retaining a high quality of work
    Nice to Have
    • Knowledge of Maya
    • Experience with rendering software
    • Knowledge of Body Paint, Deep Paint, or other 3D paint packages
    • Supporting artwork such as a portfolio
    • Basic understanding of application of onset reference photography
    • Basic understanding of different types of modelling and LookDev requirements and when to use them

    Mid Texture Artist

    Salary $28.84ph - $48.08ph / $60,000pa - $100,000pa

    Must Have
    • Minimum 3 years of high-end feature film VFX experience
    • Full working knowledge of Photoshop and Mari
    • Strong understanding of UVs
    • Strong visual skills, and a good eye for detail, scale, composition, colour and form
    • Experience shooting texture reference and the application of onset reference, and processing the data
    • Showreel demonstrating experience of high quality and complex hard surface, organic, and creature assets
    • A good knowledge of how the texture painting work fits into the bigger picture, particularly in relation to modelling, shading, and look development
    • Good understanding of rendering requirements and texture efficiencies
    • Experience meeting deadlines while retaining a high quality of work
    • Experience with rendering software such as Arnold, VRay or Mantra
    Nice to Have
    • Knowledge of Substance Painter
    • Knowledge of Body Paint, Deep Paint, or other 3D paint packages
    • Experience working with Clarisse
    • Supporting artwork such as a portfolio
    • Understanding of shading, LookDev experience and knowledge of colour pipeline
    • Previous look development experience

    Senior Texture Artist

    Salary $48.08ph - $57.69ph / $100,000pa - $120,000pa

    Must Have
    • Minimum 4 years of high-end feature film VFX experience
    • Expert knowledge of Photoshop and Mari
    • Experience using Substance Painter in a professional environment
    • Good knowledge of Maya and rendering software
    • Good knowledge of Nuke, including creating set-ups for texture turntables, grade reference
    • Strong visual skills, and a good eye for detail, scale, composition, colour and form
    • Showreel demonstrating experience of highly complex hero hard surface, organic, and creature assets of a high quality in high end live action feature films
    • Ability to take creative and technical control over an asset and complete it with minimal supervision while executing it to the requirements of the brief
    • Ability to meet deadlines while retaining a high quality of work
    • Proven knowledge of how the texture painting work fits into the bigger picture, particularly in relation to modelling, shading, and look development
    • Ability to define the look of hero assets aesthetically with the lookDev artist
    • Excellent understanding of UV and UDIM layout
    • Excellent understanding of LODs (needs examples) with strong understanding of procedural build requirements
    • Ability to shoot good quality reference material
