  • Workflow for DVCPRO HD 720p60 @ 23.98 to SD DVD?

    Hi.

I inherited a project mainly shot on DVCPRO HD 720p60 @ 23.98. I will be doing the online soon and I'm already encountering problems on export tests, so I was hoping someone could suggest the best workflow. Delivery is SD DVD.

    Problems:

The QT I outputted from the timeline (same properties as the footage) plays jerkily in QT viewer. Using Inspector I noticed it is playing my 23.98 material at 24 fps. The same .mov plays fine when dragged into a new FCP 23.98 timeline. So, I assumed this was a QT player issue (but was it? how do I change playback rate? why is this happening in the first place?)

However, the MPEG-2 that I created out of that same .mov (output from a DVCPRO HD 720p60 @ 23.98 timeline) had the same problem (jerky stills about every 24 frames, presumably to compensate for the .02 frame difference).

How should I output this for smooth results?

Is there a best workflow to follow?

    Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks,

    LP

How are you exporting from the FCP timeline?

      File>Export>Quicktime Movie

Would it make a difference if I went directly to Compressor?

Self Contained, Current Settings? You need to be really specific. What version of FCS, QT and OS X? What is your hardware? Where are you exporting to, what drive and how is it connected?

Were all rendering options checked in FCP and your timeline was fully rendered before export?

To followup on my previous post, I ended up re-outputting it, and redoing the MPEG-2 transcode (doing nothing differently) and it all came out great the second time.

Now that I'm doing the real thing, however, I'm getting the stutter again. So far I have only tried outputting a fully rendered (all boxes checked) sequence straight into Compressor.

I'm now exporting a DVCPROHD Quicktime first, and will then try encoding MPEG-2 again from that.

If anyone has an explanation for this on-again-off-again issue, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The DVCPRO HD quicktime movie output from the timeline also stutters.

Did you ever find a solution for this?

I have a DVCPRO HD (1080i60 29.97) project where the exports stutter when played back in quicktime, even if they're transcoded into another format.

Have you tried looking at the soucre files in quicktime? I noticed mine stutter in QT but play fine in FCP.

I'd really like to figure this out!

                      Thanks
