  • For autoplay, what codec in idvd is best quality for SD?

    Hi,
I shoot and edit in FCP Standard Definition. I've limped along with idvd and haven't learned DVD studio pro because my projects were internal videos for clients who were fine with that.

Now my client wants to replicate 2500 copies of a dvd I'm supposed to master over the weekend. It is a 12 minute autoplay dvd. I can author on idvd just fine. I don't plan to try to learn DVD studio pro in time, but I DO know how to use compressor.

What will be the best quality dvd format (of something shot in Standard Definition) for my skill set? Should I output the file from FCP in Quicktime for the best quality in idvd, or is an MPEG-4 better, or is one of the special specific settings in Compressor better? This is a 12 minute autoplay piece.

    Thanks, Nan

SD DVD is MPEG-2, period. iDVD doesn't work with pre-encoded MPEG-2 files so Compressor is out of the mix. Let iDVD encode the video for you.
